A little less than a year ago I decided that I was going to tackle the online dating niche. I had put a lot of thought into what I was going to make the site about. Whether I was going to do a niche online dating site, which would be easier to rank for certain keywords. But after much though I decided to go for an all out free online dating site, and maybe one day compete with the big dogs such as Plenty of Fish and OkCupid.
The dating script that I chose was Boonex Community Software. The script is far from perfect, but to get a fully functional dating script would cost thousands in programming and would be constantly updated to get rid of bugs and errors.
So I have just been slowly hammering away at getting the design that I want and also the types of features that I want in the online dating site. I just recently moved it to a VPS hosting server as I am about to launch a campaign to get some visitors there.
I started off with Facebook ads, which haven’t really been reeling in member sign ups like I thought it would. But they are pretty cheap for single clicks. Next I was going to try POF ads, but came to find out that they don’t like ads that are direct competition with them, as I am a free online dating site, I am direct competition with them, though I have a very long way to go until I can compete with the big dogs.
So if you are one of my real life or online buddies and happen to be single, take a couple minutes and sign up for a profile over at my free online dating site LovesOasis. I need all the help that I can get and this is the hardest part about running a dating site is getting those initial members to sign up.
I have seen several sites that allow you to actually buy dating profiles in bulk to pre-populate your dating site, but I really don’t want a bunch of exact duplicate members on my site. That’s not fair to the visitors that sign up there. So if anyone here has any experience running an online dating site, preferably with Boonex then please leave a comment and let us know how you are doing with it.
With that being said, I will update this when I get to 10,000 members, and then update this post again when I reach 100K, and each and every milestone after that regarding the growth of my online dating site.
